$a The topic of individualism and collectivism has been the focal point ofresearch interest in cross-cultural psychology, so much so that Ka©itçibaßi(1993) labelled the 1980s as the decade of individualism-collectivism.This interest culminated in an international conference sponsored by theKorean Psychological Association entitled Individualism and Collectivism: Psychocultural Perspectives from East and West, held in Seoul,Korea, July 9-13, 1990. This conference attempted to integrate and consolidate an ever proliferating area of research. The occasion also markedthe tenth anniversary of Geert Hofstede’s (1980) classic contribution tothis area entitled Culture’s Consequences: International Differences inWork-Related Values.
